Auckland invites you! – To attend the 11th Australian Biomechanics Conference 2018 or ABC 11. This meeting is held every two years by the Australian and New Zealand Society of Biomechanics or ANZSB, an Affiliate Society of the International Society of Biomechanics.
Under the auspices of ANZSB, and as a regional meeting, we hope to gather as many of the members, engineers, scientists, doctors, therapists and enthusiasts from Australia and New Zealand, involved in ‘all things Biomechanics’. Thus, to attract you we will put together a fantastic scientific program, filled with awesome keynote speakers, up-to-date reports on the science from our presentations and posters, and stimulating panel discussions with carefully selected experts.
Combined with ABC 11 is also the 10th Annual Mechanobiology Symposium, a small meeting that is held annually in Auckland. Hence the theme for ABC 11 is “Biomechanics and Mechanobiology – Exploring Synergies”. The idea is to encourage further exploration into how the engineering field and the biological sciences can together improve our approaches to solving the difficult problems in medicine, through not only the well-established field of Biomechanics, but to include also (and embrace fully) the emerging research area of Mechanobiology.
Kai is the Maori word for food, and as your Kiwi hosts, we have in store a great hospitality program that will be conducive to networking, making new collaborations and getting to know new friends. Believe us when we say one of our planning objectives for the program this year is to ensure that there will be plenty of time for whakawhanaungatanga.
Location is everything and the meeting will be held in the city campus of the University of Auckland—a world-class, vibrant, and modern University set in the heart of The City of Sails with access to the city’s amenities and locations farther afield. We are organising accommodation options which span a budget range, and are all within walking distance to the conference site.
Another thing to note is that the time of year for the meeting is the beginning of summer. ‘Casual’ will be the dress theme of the day and represent the cool and laid back atmosphere we hope to create in enjoying the days of learning and socialising.
Nearing the end of the year is also a time for holidaying for many of you. So if you are visiting New Zealand, we would encourage you to use this opportunity after the meeting to travel around the country, explore, and experience the beauty of this amazing land and its people.
Do start planning now and if there are any questions or requests, please do not hesitate to contact us.
